Ten Places in One Year: Where Nanyang Now Sits Among Singapore’s Top Business Schools

Image Recommendation: A close-up of a printed ranking table with a row highlighted and an upward arrow marked beside it, set against NTU’s business school building in the background.

Singapore is genuinely crowded with strong business schools, and most lists of the top business schools in Singapore end up naming the same small handful every year without explaining what actually moved between one year’s list and the next. One number changed that calculus for Nanyang Business School recently: a ten-place climb, in a single year, on one of the rankings that MBA applicants actually study closely rather than skim.

Ten Places in a Single Year

In the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2025, Nanyang Business School moved up ten places to reach position 22 worldwide. A jump of that size in a single year is unusual on a ranking built from a mix of alumni salary data, career progression, and research output, none of which tend to shift dramatically year over year for any one school. The Financial Times itself has been publishing this particular ranking for over two decades, which is part of why a ten-place move gets noticed rather than dismissed as statistical noise.

Two Different Rankings, Two Different Stories

The QS Global MBA Rankings tell a slightly more complicated story from the same period. Nanyang sits at 48 globally for 2027, but 6 within Asia specifically, a considerably stronger regional position that a single global number tends to obscure. That Asia ranking has actually eased slightly, from as high as 3 in the 2024 to 2026 period down to 6 for 2027, a reminder that rankings inside a single fast-moving region can move in the opposite direction from a school’s global trajectory in the very same year. Reading only one of these two numbers gives a genuinely incomplete picture of where a programme actually stands.

The Accreditation Layer Rankings Don’t Show

  • EQUIS: the European Quality Improvement System, an accreditation that examines a business school’s entire institution, not just one programme, covering governance, internationalisation, and research output
  • AACSB: the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, one of the oldest and most widely recognised accreditation bodies for business education globally, with a particular emphasis on faculty qualifications and continuous improvement processes

Both of these sit underneath any yearly ranking number and don’t reset each year the way a ranking position does. A school can climb or slip several places on a single ranking without its underlying accreditation status changing at all, which is exactly why the two are worth checking separately rather than treating a single ranking movement as the whole picture.

A Second Ranking Most People Never Check

Most applicants comparing the top business schools in Singapore focus entirely on full-time MBA rankings and stop there, which means a second data point often gets missed: Nanyang’s Executive MBA sits at 35 globally in the QS rankings, with a narrower international trade-specific ranking of 12. For a candidate weighing the Executive MBA specifically rather than the full-time programme, that second figure is arguably more relevant than the flagship full-time number that tends to get quoted everywhere else.

Reading a Ranking Table Without Getting Misled by It

None of these figures settles the question of which school is genuinely the best fit for a specific candidate, since a ranking methodology weights things like alumni salary outcomes and research citations in ways that don’t map onto every candidate’s own priorities. A prospective student targeting a specific industry or a specific country for their next role might reasonably care more about a school’s employment outcomes in that narrow slice than about its overall global position. The honest use of a number like a ten-place jump isn’t to settle the decision outright. It’s to confirm that a school worth shortlisting in the first place is still moving in the right direction, and to prompt a closer look at the figures that actually apply to a specific programme rather than the headline one.

To see how these rankings and accreditations map onto a specific MBA programme, contact Nanyang Technological University and ask the admissions team directly.
